STUDY WITH LOUIS
VELASQUEZ ART STUDIO
Please read about FRANK COVINO , below

The DVD, OIL PAINTING WITH CALCITE SUN OIL, has been well received
worldwide.
It will teach you how to use the oil paint medium like REMBRANDT,
VELAZQUEZ, RUBENS, and other great Masters.

The method is SO SIMPLE you will laugh --once you understand its basic
principles - BUT YOU WILL MARVEL at its profound complex chemical
nature.

None of the Great Masters knew of today's modern science nor were they
chemists, but they OBSERVED and knew by practical studio work, what the
use
of the materials taught in this DVD and in my book- -
will allow a painter to accomplish.

THE CSO-EGG TEMPERA DVD
teaches the new development to the 15th century Egg Tempera method. It
will expand the visual expression of today's egg tempera painters who use
CENNINI'S ancient method.
The CSO-EGG TEMPERA method is the first major advancement in EGG
TEMPERA of the past 600 years. NOW, you can paint with IMPASTO--
an application  method not allowed under CENNINI'S method.

In 2011, I developed a NEW and REVOLUTIONARY OIL PAINT.------
" MILK OIL PAINT".
This new milk oil paint is NOT a casein tempera.
The DVD gives full instruction on using this remarkable new OIL PAINT.
Thin washes dry in 5 minutes -- impasto dries in one hour

The DVD to your right is the BEGINNER'S version,
made for NEW students and School Art classes of Jr. High and High School
levels.
THIS VIDEO IS NOW FREE ON YOUTUBE

The DVD FOR ADVANCED PAINTERS:
THE NEW MILK OIL PAINT AND THE VAN EYCK SECRET MEDIUM is
made for professional and advanced painters. It will illuminate much of the
mystery of the VAN EYCK SECRET MEDIUM and will demonstrate in live
film HOW TO USE the new MILK OIL PAINT

PETER PAUL RUBENS is unequaled in technical matters of oil
painting. The extraordinary facility and mastery of his paint application has
held artists spellbound since his death in 1640.
My new DVD on the Methods and Materials of
Peter Paul Rubens has much new information.

CAUTION: This DVD is not for beginners. It uses HAZARDOUS MATERIALS.

NOTICE: ON FEB 21, 2015  I UPLOADED THE
RUBENS DVD ONTO YOUTUBE
It is now free to be studied in its entirety

Some day in the future I will teach in my home studio, but that date
is unknown. Any future Classes will be in my Home Studio located
in the North Park neighborhood of San Diego, California.

I will also consider traveling to locations within the USA to teach
the subjects in my Books and DVDS to groups of artists.
Associations interested may contact me at   velapress@aol.com

I still hope to give instruction in the future, but will consider
teaching one on one or even two students at a time. My most
recent developments and educational efforts have been to
produce several DVDS, which are shown on this page.

With DVD'S, I believe students can save a great deal of expense
as there would be no travel, hotel, meals or auto rental costs.
With DVD'S one has the luxury of studying at home at one's own
pace. And, I am always available via email communication to
provide free consultations and advice.

Over the years I found Art students will say "SHOW ME HOW".
Books are excellent for reference but with hands on painting
instruction, there is nothing better than a LIVE teacher...and as a
second best...
a DVD helps immensly. If a picture is worth 1000 words--a live
action DVD is worth a Zillion words.

I offer Artists two books and Five DVDS teaching SAFE FINE ART PAINTING
without need for any Hazardous, Dangerous , Toxic or Carcinogenic materials

FRANK COVINO
ITALIAN-AMERICAN ARTIST
[ born 1931 -    ]

I am thrilled to introduce my readers to the sound priciples of
creative painting as written by Mr. Covino.
I share here is introductory essay to his book published in 1982.

Now out of print - its sound principles will never age and his wise
words will live forever. He clearly states that Academic realism is NOT
ANY BETTER than other forms or styles of painting. I agree. I consider
myself an EXPRESSIONIST-REALIST. I distort natural forms and colors
and I do NOT attempt to paint photo realistically. Frank's words about
the essence of 'creative art', are TRUTH.

I have known about Frank's work for several years, but I never felt
the need for his guidance - I just follow my own path through the
creative making of art and paintings.  Like Frank, I have done many
many forms, sculpture, pottery, fabric, metal and much much more.
Each medium challenging with its possibilities and limitations.
BUT
I am a painter first and foremost.

My interest in FRank's teaching was RE-KINDLED by the audacious
claim by a man named TIM JENISON who believes the great Dutch
painter VERMEER, used a
'mechanical, color swatch matching , mirror on a stick contraption" ,
to COPY COLORS AND THEIR VALUES
to paint his paintings.

Tim's movie, TIM'S VERMEER" is his story about he and his
contraption. I have studied the film in depth- and have experimented
with his method- In my opinion of over 50 years as a professional
artist- I believe the film is NOT a serious academic documentary.
I believe the film is for pure ENTERTAINMENT,
with the motives being, and the way things are done,
in Hollywood and Las Vegas.

HERE NOW
in Frank Covino's book
is what Vermeer and all the greatest Old Masters did
to match color and value gradations
that we all observe in nature daily.
AND TO CREATE THEIR MAGICAL
EXTRAORDINARY CREATIONS

I AM PROUD TO SHARE THE INTRODUCTION
